What are the Japanese real estate taxes like?

Something similar in the US. I live in the Bay Area, CA, and all the older houses are being torn down to make room for these cookie-cutter McMansions that all look the same. They take up a lot of volume, but the inside is mostly empty space - large vaulted ceilings that serve no purpose except for spiders to build their webs in the corners and laugh at how hard it is to clean them out. Most of the older houses are really not very good, poor design, and no insulation - but some of them are very beautiful, but now nice as they are they look out of place among the bloated McMansions. There is not a whole lot of heritage value to older CA homes, but some of the Eichlers are reminiscent of Japanese style houses and they are valued and often remodeled very nicely.

@АннаСеменова-в4ш Those guys are really obsessed with the onion domes ... they are very interesting and striking to look at.

It's interesting that the bathtub here - 6:20 - has a full length window right beside i?

Uh ... maybe the declining population numbers have something to do with it, not to mention extremely low interest rates and the lack of any immigration at all.

Oh God ... I had a Japanese girlfriend who always wanted to sleep on the floor. She was crazy. She and her sister even admitted they slept better in an actual bed, but their habit was sleeping on the floor so they always preferred the floor. I tried it many times, and I could sleep with little padding, but I just think that is sad. Beds are a wonderful invention.

@edthom2210 Not all old houses are charming, just like not all new houses are sterile.

What is the little box set high on the wall at 3:23 ?? I'm guessing ventilation, heat and air-conditioning. I like that, clean and simple. But does it work? Also the in the floor door-stop is clever too.

@nas2817 IN terms of classic buildings, 100 years is not that old. Your link doesn't seem to have any images associated with it though.

@BubblyViolin11 I think more like over one thousand years ... One of Japan's oldest temples, Shitennoji was built more than 1,400 years ago. The temple is famous for its symmetrical architectural style.
