Yeah, he did try, but he was not able to get people to listen to him?

Even Kucinich and Hedges have to make a living. They give speeches and write books, and get interviewed, but they don't really challenge the system in real constructively critical ways that can lead to political change. A lot of people have the courage to reform, they just don't have the brains or understanding, and I am not sure either of Kucinich or Hedges does anything to change that. They just tell their "customers" what they want to hear, and in turn their customers give them money for making them feel hopeful. Meanwhile things that might possibly lead to more democratic change - like perhaps Twitter, are bought up and rendered useless when they show a possiblity of bringing about change, or even getting information or ideas out there. I am sure global oligarchs all over the world are cheering Elon Musk's work and destroying Twitter, and under the absurd rubrick of free speech. No wonder the Left never gets anywhere and the oligarchs fear them and want to disempower them. Not saying this is right or optimal, just that it should be discussed openly and analyzed and a strategy openly arrived at to bring about change that helps people.

@jasondelvaux3036 In retrospect too? Kucinich just did not have the poltical mojo, or the people did not trust his sweetness and light talk without a long history of proving himself. For me, I knew I was a socialist way back before Kucinich was popular, so I liked what he had to say about a few issues, but it was just talk. It didn't help that he was very short, dressed like a little boy, talked like a little boy trying to be taken seriously. It was not until Bernie Sanders that the Left really had a credible candidate, and all people can do is criticize him. UNLESS, it's not really the people it our privately controlled media making us think people are more skeptical of Bernie than they are. Oh, and the wife is like the dreams of every little boy who gets a peek at a Playboy. ;-)

@honey_badger1968 I'd vote for him if he was in my area and the only choice as a Democrat or Progressive, I'm just saying he has not been very effective. The Left often gets stuck with candidates that are like cartoon figures. Finally we got Bernie Sanders years back who has more experience that most of the House and Senate and has served in both as well as in local government. The other thing is that I know you are a Right-wing person because of your rhetoric. Or at least dishonest.

He's right, and Thomas Frank's book Listen Liberal talks about this as well as some of his others - how totally money driven the government is, and especially the Democrats. What else could they do though, unless they were prepared to go full socialist, or whatever you would call this - because it would basically be taking money from taxes and funding government elections. I don't know if that would be good, or bad, or whether it would work or not, but it is a huge change, and how can you make a decision like that, or a change like that, against the basic American system that it is all about money? Clearly being driven by money has its "defects", in the same way that having government policy being driven by the average ignorant people would. At a time when we have a population that has some large percentage of people who support a criminal like Donald Trump, it tells us there is something not right or unworkable about pure democracy. We hear about going back the to Powell Memorandum, and that is a powerful argument, but how else can this would work? You have to prove it, and to prove it to a plurality to the people who run the country that it is a good idea - democracy and voter representation be damned. They are not going to listen, but there is also nothing to listen to. I mean, personally I find the argument that national universal health care will be much less expensive and much more effective, but how can a change like that be made? And the people we have on the side of the Left, like this gloomy looking guy with this thick propaganda and blues music with only poor black people marching? Not that I have anything against that, in fact I support it - but it is a good PR move to start all his shows like that, appealing only to poor black people, and behaving like race really is the issue with the implication that white people in general are to blame. Both Hedges and Kucinich make their livings off the backs of a certain political group that they will not alienate - same with the Republican, though the Republicans are pals with the people who really make money and the make the policies to back them up. I don't think in all Hedges life he has ever done anything to empower the "Left". They are placeholders in our political system that talk a certain way, but in the end divert the energy and discussions of the Left and Progressivism into dead ends while pretending to be Progressive. Are they incompetent or working against the Left in their own way?

Well, clearly having statesmen in our government did not make it strong enough to live up to pursue the vision that most people had of the potential of our Constitution, and now we seem to have let the system slide into oligarchy and perhaps fully into fascism. There is an argument to have here, though it cannot be had because our system does not care or want to know what the average person thinks, because the average person is an idiot and cannot be entrusted with the power to discuss or improve our system.

I think the Left, rank and file, fails to see that the first priority of any entity is self-preservation, i.e. defense. It is there we get into nuance and any discussion or understanding breaks down and we end up with the Military Industrial Complex taking over everything because from defense we go to world domination - in the name of defense. It's been the USA's goal since basically forever, coming into view only after WWII. The question for the Left ought not be how can it pander to the clueless like the Republicans do - but they end up having no choice. The goal of the Left should be to distill what is correct from the Right and then work for negotiation, as the goal of the Right ought to be to find the legitimate concerns of the Left and compromise .... but instead the oligarchs and plutocrats manipulate this massive social and political fraud by ownership of the media, and virtually everything else now and putting the average person into the role of basically being cattle, farm animals for the economy to exploit, and kill if they have to..
