  1. Republicans had been getting more extreme and worse since Reagan, but they seemed to reach a critical mass of corporate and billionaire ownership in 2000 with Bush. The first thing Bush did when in office was to small the balanced budget accomplishment of Clinton and set up back on a road to adding to the debt ... going from Clintons 5 trillion debt to about 12 trillion when he left office, plus an estimated 3 trillion for the cost of the war in Iraq/Afghanistan. The debt comes about when the US government does not charge the corporations and rich people enough to pay for itself every year and has to go into debt, and sell bonds to borrow money ... from billionaires, and abroad ... and then instead of taking in money it has to pay out interest on that debt for all the years a debt exists ... meaning that every time Bush sold a bond to a billionaire, that billionaire got paid for NOT PAYING HIS TAXES, BUT INSTEAD LENDING THE US GOVERNMENT MONEY. This is the heart of the problem!

  2. I agree somewhat with this guy. America cannot be isolationist ... if you just look at one thing ... we have spent many trillions of dollars on the military and military weapons and technology. Most of what is innovative comes from the US military and then works its way into consumer goods. This is what gives us a leap ahead of other countries, and also we test our equipment in the field and our people. That is a huge sunk cost, a gigantic expenditure and investment, and even if we wanted to - and even if it was the right thing to do - we cannot do that - PERIOD - IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN. So, given that constraint, the US needs to be incredibly thoughtful and smart about what we do with our military. We do not really have a history of doing that, so one of the first things we need a President to do is an audit of the military and intelligence, and then reorganize then so that it makes sense and the actions that we take are all win-win, not just blowing stuff up and creating havoc. We also need to develop the technology to help countries ... the problem and reason we do not is that what we need to do is to create dynamic social support systems in these countries to make them work ... as we did in Japan and Germany at the end of WWII ... and the US does not want to go there because it shows, as does the whole path of the developed world since WWII that socialism and working for people WORKS, and it is the only thing that works. The problem is that this pushes to the forefront the corruption that our system has become.
