Instead of railing against social media this blathering bizarro should give us a real solution ... one of which might be to have a basic FREE nationalized social media, like the phone book, that is a place where all people should be registered and you know where to find them or how to designate them. Like we should have a public bank where we can cash checks and put our money without worrying about people playing games with or stealing our money. There is a lot of power in democracy and socialism, and both aspects of how you look at the world are better when they are in checks and balances like the government ... or at least how it is supposed to be. These same criticisms were around with telephones and junk mail and even people who used to sell door to door. Just bringing them up with cute cat and dog analogies does not move the needle anywhere or help anyone.

  5. CA is doing fine. the reason people are leaving is that it is time for them to leave ... there are too many people here and they need to split and go elsewhere. It is not a bad thing. To much traffic, too many people who moved here who hate CA ... good then get ( the F ) out. Tech went sour anyway. Who even likes tech anymore, all they do is help the oligarchs create big Brother, and ruin stuff.

While I agree with Chamath Palihapitiya that the player have earned the right to draw attention political to some issue, I think he is just trying to be a "cool guy" i the media, a PR sound byte, I don't think he is a cool guy. In order for a super-rich guy to be a cool-guy he has to do something for other people that is admirable, and so far anyway, what this guy has done is to make a lot of money on something he says is now wring or problematic, and talk around doing something good about it. I hope he does something more than talk because he can be a compete ahole off camera and most of us will never know. Look at Harvey Weinstein or others. Rich people are THE problem ... rich people not being good citizens are killing this country.

  8. The problem is not that nuclear industry has not communicated well, it is because the nuclear industry makes design cuts and takes the cheap road every time that leads to accidents. Nuclear should be nationalized for 20 years and designed by NASA before it is privatized again. You cannot trust American businessmen.

People whine about regulations, but I think the problem is not regulation, we need regulation and no one would go through the effort of putting in a regulation for no reason - that is, all those regulations are there for a reason. That's why we don't have a lot of massive fires in our housing subdivisions, or people dying from electrocution or toxic chemicals, etc. The problem is people. You get a regulator to come in and inspect what you are doing, and some people just have bad judgement or like to act like tinhorn dictators. The real problem is that the development companies are greedy and sucking all the money for themselves. They do not pay their people enough, and like a lot of places they are in league with dishonest companies or criminals to cut costs or shake people down. Oh, but it is so much easier to blame regulations because we hear it repeated so often by the people who are regulated and who are on the line when they do something wrong. Tough toenails.

  15.  @sir.2015  There is .... our military defense contractors, except for one that I cannot recall the name of, have all gone all in on big huge ticket items that require overly expensive maintenance and parts costs, while our enemy countries have changed into inexpensive massive drone warfare. Our Navy ships are sitting ducks out there in the sea, and they have to stay farther and farther back to avoid massive drone attacks.

Ukraine has a majority of its power coming from nuclear, and France has gone almost fully nuclear. They are clean and safe - even counting the most stupid of accidents they are many times cheaper, cleaner and safer than fossil fuels. The problem is that the American elites fear the people so much that they removed their jobs and stupefied them ... a guarantee to decline and destroy the country.
