Why does he always looks like shit? I've learned so much from Noam Chomsky through the decades, but I've never worshipped him, and I think it is awful the way sycophants take every word he says as gospel and never question of think for themselves. I think his stand on Israel-Palestine is absolutely bizarre and totally irrational. Most other things he is level-headed about.

Computer science?

@tcritt So in other words ... nothing. The computer science advances in recent decades have not been about grammar per se, they are all statistical based on probability looking at both correct and incorrect formations. Strictly speaking Chomsky has not nothing in computer science but perhaps inspiration or setting a framework for the actual computer work or others.

WTF is the point about rehashing Nixon's Southern Strategy ... is the audience here so frickn stupid they don't know about that in this day and age ... what is the point of wasting time on this crap? The Powell Memorandum would at least make more sense, and its follow-ons as well as naming the oligarchs who have planned this coup. Trump is a coup, but a Hogan's Heroes type fake-coup, the real coup is happening every day in Congress and the Senate. There is nothing out there that can be a sensible rallying point or discussion point for the Left ... you all might as well just be collecting money from the Koch Brother(s) if you are not already.

Chomsky's supposed to be an activist and so radical, but he has no idea of how to stop what is happening with the country and the Liberarian/Nazi takeover of the government, nor does he speculate on what will happen even worse after that happens. It has been through "Legislative Capture" of the government by money gained by the corruption of tax law and regulation, etc. At this point in his life, he is like an old rock band living on their past hits with nothing to offer. He doesn't even write his own books any longer. He is a Progressive DECOY ... a time waster. A real activist as far as a lecturer, writer and podcaster would be Thom Hartmann. There are not very many any more ... and most of the voices from the Left are only allowed to be out there because the make the Left look so repugnant and turn people away.

Reagan's racism ... just look at where Reagan kicked off his Presidential run! This is all covered in the recent documentary, "The Reagans". I think Ron Jr. was the only sane human being in that family. Reagan was despicable ... and Gingrich was even worse. The Communists are definitely the Republicans.

12:00 - I think he means Bush/Cheney told us that deficits don't matter. Reagan dumped 6 trillion debt on the country, but he did raise taxes, and that held all the way until George W. Bush realized what the MMT people are saying today, and made sure to give all that money to Republicans and the rich. The US turned overtly fascist under GWB ... but we have been working on it strictly since right after FDR, while the rest of the developed world has been respecting democracy and their people. Look at Finland for the greatest model.

The question to ask ... because all that stuff about the Republican party is covered in far greater detail by Thomas Frank in his NEVER QUOTED BOOK, "The Wrecking Crew: How Conservatives Rule" ... is, is there any way to turn back the money supporters behind the Republican party. This would be like asking Chomsky was there any way to short-circuit the Nazis in the early 1930's. I don't think this is going to stop with the Republican takeover of our government - so whatever else Chomsky says is irrelevant and simply a waste of time. America has never been a democracy, but we have a certain points moved in that direction ... mostly under FDR's vision. That was quickly turned back, and now the very idea of democracy is called socialism or communism. We are well and truly fucked.

Chomsky just pisses me off. He is too old to change his tune that everything is getting better ... talking about years of progress and hard work ... that is exactly what the fascists have done - intensely - for the last 20 years. How did Bush get elected ... selected. Chomsky is a old fool today who will never admit that he is wrong, and that the fascist takeover of the US is almost complete. If Republican party wins Congress in 2022 - that will be the death certificate of US democracy - for good. He does not admit or realize that demonstrations in the street don't mean anything. The government does not change its course because of demonstrations ... that would be somewhat democratic, and we have moved so far away from that ... it is not coming back unless the people demand it, and the racist control of the media and communications has divided and fragmented people in a way, and even the basic nature of reality. Look at this situation ... 50% of people are afraid to get vaccinated against a deadly disease ... and just today some of them are believing that a vaccine could magnetize a person. We have a country of mindless idiots, not patriotic intelligent citizens ... and the game is how to milk the mindless idiots, not how to make a country great ... for that we'd need to talk to Finland.
