Sapolsky is so smart ... great to hear him speak any time.

The problem with all of this "biological problem" instead of looking at things criminally or vengefully is that our society rewards the most criminal people. You either get that or you don't but the most aggressive, narcissistic, selfish people always seem to rise to power. Look at our President. There is a reason they say behind every great fortune is a great crime. We are submissive in general to aggressive forceful people. And that is not to mention the fact that we drive people to dysfunction. The rich and powerful learn techniques to manipulate people, or in the case of voting they intimidate or scare people to not vote, or the stress of being treated like a minority drives people to physical and mental illness ... that is just what the ruling class wants.

I read that book and it was so complicated or basically it cut the legs out from under a lot of pervious theories of human behavior and beliefs, like the simplistic ideas of what hormones do. We should have so much to learn, and yet as usually we humans, or some of us learn some tricks about how to manipulate others of us and only seem to put it to use in exploiting them.

This was roughly 2.5 years ... and it makes me wonder how Joe Rogan's politics might have changed from exposure to these ideas.

Sapolsky assumes we will be around in 500 years. Not sure about that Bob! ;-)

Imagine if we could get someone as logical, scientific and thoughtful as Sapolsky in the American Presidency.

I would love to know what Robert Sapolsky's insights into social media, media disinformation, misinformation, the behavioral modification that humans might pick up from "artificial experience" ... i.e. movies, tv and even artificial environments such as work or wartime. I've never heard of anything further Sapolsky has written or talked about, and wonder if he would even be willing to speculate in that it might affect how his past work is viewed. Just an amazing study.

The last I read about Sapolsky's baboon experiment was that eventually the "culture" of his baboon troop flipped back to the normal baboon male dominated hierarchy. That was really sad to hear, but it also shows the same plasticity that Robert Sapolsky talks about here. I wonder does it mean that if one values their democratic peaceful, low-stress culture that they have to be on guard for whatever it is that turns people back into virtual Nazis. First thing I was wondering is - could this be what happens in human cultures, and do the lead humans in societies have the understanding and ability to manipulate their societies in ways that cause stress to those beneath them, i.e. slavery, soldiering and maybe even female behavior. These studies are fascinating, but I wonder what do the people who are studying baboons and animal behavior speculate their studies could mean for humans or how they can pertain to human societies? Amazing!
