  1.  @tom4381  Saint George is thought to have been born in Cappadocia, an area which is now Turkey. His mother was Palestinian and, following the death of George's father, returned to Palestine when George was still a child. As an adult Saint George served in the Roman army and rose to the high-ranking position of tribune. Although this meant that George travelled a lot, he never visited England.
