  1. Because Stalin moved the Red Army up to the Curson line, that was to be an eastern border of Poland, as the Versailles peace conference defined in 1919. Poland ignored that decision and grabbed the lands of Western Ukraine and Western Byelorussia in 1920 by force. So, the status of the Curson line was restored after Poland's collapse after 17 of September, 1939. Formally, the USSR was not a party to an aggression against Poland, but got its own lands, stolen from it in 1920.
