But the USSR was too hard a nut for Germany and her allies. After the initial shock Russians brought themselves together and crushed Wehrmacht in the Battle for Moscow (December,1941), the Stalingrad Battle (November, 1942) and the Kursk Battle (July, 1943). As Winston Churchill said at the beginning of 1944 , the Red Army had broken a backbone of Nazi armed forces. He was aware that 75% of the overall German strength in aircraft, tanks, guns, soldiers and officers were destroyed and found their graves in the Eastern Front. By 1944 Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe were already a bleak shadow of their former power, when Nazis occupied the whole of continental Europe and Northern Africa.

And stop quoting Western propaganda versions of events of 1939 that twist the truth for the sake of Cold War aims.

  5. xpat73 You have to calculate German casualties for the whole period of the WW2 and not exclusively between June 1944 and and the VE Day. By June 1944 the German armed forces were already on the brink of a total collapse due to colossal losses in the Eastern Front. Compare the number of divisions deployed by Hitler in France with the number of divisions on other fronts. Or rather a number of German casualties from 1941 to June,6, 1944.
