I'm English & love the Irish as many of my countrymen do! Been there many times & have always enjoyed a warm welcome & great times. Saying I'm "English," my son bought me a DNA ancestry kit for Christmas &, as possible indicated but my surname, I do have Irish blood in me which I'm immensely proud & pleased about. We have no family connection that I know of to Ireland though so I think the migration must have happened a few generations back.

He actually wasn't. He was a great humanist & admonished any of his crew who harmed indigenous peoples. He also did all he could to avoid the spread of venereal disease to locals. Someone had to, at some stage, extend our understanding of the known world & he was that man. What happened subsequently was generally awful but if the shoe had been on the other foot & peoples from the southern hemisphere were exploring the north do you honestly think things would have been different?

Unfortunately I've not been able to watch the full documentary as, rather ironically, I'm literally on a beach on the Essex coast here in the UK & have very spotty 5G. I have however been listening to a brilliant 3 part BBC podcast about the man & his achievements & laughed out loud when they mentioned that one of the reasons for Cook's further voyages was to return a Polynesian guy they had picked up somewhere along the way. This man had been taken back to England & achieved great fame & notoriety including being introduced to & befriended by King George III who, on his departure, gave him a "Charger" (warhorse) & a suit of armour! 😁 Don't know if this was mentioned in this documentary which I'm looking forward to watching in full over a Wi-fi connection. 👍
