He eats in a restaurant quite near to here & is apparently a really nice guy so I might get him to sign it. I think it was only £10 or something about 10 years ago!

  5. America effectively killed the plane in making hard if not impossible for operators to fly anywhere in the States outside of coastal fields where the plane could accelerate over water. The "noise" concerns probably hid a deeper intention to possibly see the project fail on commercial grounds.  As a Brit I LOVE America & Americans but for doing that & killing John Lennon I can never forgive them!

The age of the earth can be estimated by taking the first five days of creation (from earth’s creation to Adam), then following the genealogies from Adam to Abraham in Genesis 5 and 11, then adding in the time from Abraham to today.  Adam was created on day 6, so there were five days before him. If we add up the dates from Adam to Abraham, we get about 2,000 years, using the Masoretic Hebrew text of Genesis 5 and 11.3 Whether Christian or secular, most scholars would agree that Abraham lived about 2,000 B.C. (4,000 years ago).  So a simple calculation is:  5 days  + ~2,000 years  + ~4,000 years  _____________  ~6,000 years That came from your own "Book of Nonsense." So with God KNOWING what was going to happen you are saying he is sick or something? Maybe gets off on watching his "creations" suffer? Even IF he did give humans this "gift" of freewill that would have been akin to giving a 3 year old kid a blow torch in a firework factory & telling him see how many boxed he can burn! Feel free to give me your views on Christianity's dating of the planet at just over 6000 years though. We need to get away from this concept of ONLY being able to be a "good person" if you buy into human constructed concepts & strictures of "being religious." You can lead perfectly ethical & moral lives without the need to worship a winged super monkey in the sky & in fact might be better placed to do just that free from idiotic dogmas & time restricting religious ceremonies to a deity who by all practical empirical measures is yet to show his face!  See here's the BIG problem..... In their zeal & enthusiasm to create this uber deity to compete with 4000 other equally as celebrated & adored "gods" the ancients gave him ridiculous powers such as the "omnis," omniscience in particular. So regardless of if he gave us free will or not he would have KNOWN we were about to screw up & yet let his little experiment go ahead anyway! It's like me putting you in a house rigged with remote controlled booby-traps along the lines of "Home Alone" & then pissing myself when you inadvertently stumble into one!  Christianity 2000 years ago was no big deal. People back then, maybe like the tribes in the rain forest now who might project the same "powers" & "credibility" onto a sacred tree frog as you do in god felt the need for order & explanation in their lives. Christianity which spun out of the Jewish religion was only adopted as the de facto religion of the Western world through the emperor Constantine & a serendipitous (for proto Christians) event during the Roman civil wars. Had that not happened people like you would have been on here waxing lyrical about the mythical powers of Mars or Juno - the Romans had been perfectly happy to call them the way forward for hundreds of years! You know that Muslims seriously believe that Mohammed flew to the moon on a winged horse & split it in two to create the earth don't you? That is not a metaphor but an ACTUAL belief! Ridiculous right?  Well yes maybe from YOUR perspective because you don't buy into that fan club but how ridiculous & unproven is practically everything in the bible yet you buy into it! At least the Hindus in their scriptures who Robert Oppenheimer quoted from after announcing the development of the atomic bomb but at least the Hindus got the timeline & events of the Big Bang pretty much spot on! What gets me with Christianity in particular & religion in general is this constant moving of the goal posts. As science, often in the face of religious opposition, reveals more about the TRUTH regarding our planet & our place upon it you get idiots squealing - "Ah God did mention dinosaurs he called them "Behemoths!" or "When god says the world is 6000 years old he is using a different "time measurement to us!" You know the sort of stuff that would have got you burnt for heresy like Copernicus nearly was for rightly proclaiming that the Earth did not orbit the sun as God had stated & was also not the centre of the universe!

If history has taught us anything it is that humans will buy into any old nonsense from the Mormons distorted & barely recognisable take on Christianity to all the nonsense of The Church of Scientology. Like I say, you don't have to belive in mythical super deities to be a good & constructive person. Even if there was a god I would imagine he would bury his head in his hands in disgust & disappointment over our husbandry of the planet & yet we all COULD do something about that but it doesn't figure that high on the "to do" list of many religions. God chose & gave his patronage to organised religion, so we are told, so I would be careful of writing him out of your personal equation to quickly!

To be honest & with all due respect, personal psychosis or even hallucinationary messianic voices don't really cut it for me..... Look up a Vice video called "The Christ of the Ukraine" or something similar you will see how very, very easy it is for people to get caught up in mass delusion. This guy thinks he is Christ & a few hundred thousand people have bought into it! Now if that can happen in the supposedly enlightened times of 2016 imagine the possibilities and delusions that abounded 2000 years ago! You're a god person or trying to be, you don't need a supernatural superman to keep you on the right path so why waste your time believing in one?

That's another of religions problems, there are too many conflicting & contradictory belief systems out there. Just because Christianity was adopted by a Roman emperor & ipso facto the Western world doesn't give it any more credibility or make it any more right THAN any other religion. None of them have had a deity that has written in 6000 mile high letters of liquid diamond over the Western Atlantic -"I AM THE ONE TRUE GOD!"

Christianity has FAR more blood on its hands than say Buddhism or Hinduism. From the Crusades through the Catholic churches endorsed & sanctioned destructions of the aboriginal tribes of S.America through the conquistadores or even the devil in the again church sanctioned Spanish Inquisition. You could say that all that is not the fault of god but again through his omniscience he would know exactly what was going to happen, freewill or no freewill! Other belief systems do have a devil or evil side at least. Look I respect your faith but maybe you should be spending some of your time asking questions rather than blindly accepting dubious ideologies. A good place to start maybe in asking why there seems to be an innate need within humans to have this form of a belief system?

None of that is supported in anyway by science or empirical observation and testing! God might have wanted us to be good but would have known from day one that was never going to happen but still run he's little test. Unlike a lot of religious people who are fanatical in the belief that THEY are right & there categorically is a god I am open minded enough to see & know that I don't have all the answers & there may will be more to life than heaven & he'll BUT.....if I was going to throw my lot in with any religious organisation it wouldn't be one that got the age of the world a few zillion years out & has holy book so full of contradictions & holes that you could strain peas with it! Btw - There has, only a few months back, been a development on the final resting place of Alexander the Great The recent discovery of a large Alexander-era tomb at Kasta Tomb in Amphipolis in the region of Macedonia,Greece, has once again invited speculation about Alexander's final resting place.

Yeah people do apparently see things BUT the interesting thing is that it is normally THEIR religion's version of heaven, not a sanitised Christian one with the Gates of St Peter! I also have never heard of anyone, no matter how bad saying that they ended up in the bowels of the earth getting hot around the collar & talking to a guy with horns on! The consensus seems to be a tunnel of light with possibly deceased family members at the end of it but absolutely no religious context whatsoever! You have to remember you are in Jesus's army & fed propaganda related to that cause you are brainwashed & conditioned to think one way. OK, you've asked me enough questions let me ask you something. ...Are you able to consider the possibility that you are wrong? That there is not a god? You seem to skate over the points I make over contradictory religions & the many errors in the bible as if they are not there! You are sitting there like the Three Monkeys rolled into one! Can you understand that people have a propensity to buy into nonsense & that you are not immune from that? Like the Jehovah's Witnesses MANY erroneous proclamations for the day of rapture people are CONVINCED they are onto something only to end up looking like total fools! That is the problem with debating with religious people they are ALL convinced that the spiritual crutch they need to get them through life is real & have no time for other options even when glaring mistakes, contradictions & hard evidence are presented to them. I was debating awhile back with a guy who was equally as deluded to the extent that he brazenly stated that all scientific experiments like atomic dating that have PROVED the age of the world were/are rigged! Anyhow, during this discussion I met a woman who was a totally committed & informed Christian who was actually open minded enough to question her faith. When she did she found it wanting & wrong in so many areas she renounced it. I can provide you the link if you want, it gets very interesting.

What would any deity who lives in an alternate state or floats about on clouds all day want to be doing in creating man in his image? Humans, as this video clearly shows, developed through evolution & natural selection so if we are made in "The image of god" why would god need human features? He doesn't exist in a land where he would need the attributes mankind does on earth like hands & get & a backside!

How does that happen when we are taking about the pure unadulterated words from a deity who knows everything? I'm done indulging you in what is obviously some weird pet subject of yours in what happens when you are dead, mostly because it's obvious you haven't got a clue what you are going on about but for one last attempted to help you understand. ..., The electrical impulses in your body & many other functions including brain activity don't shut down as soon as the heart stops. I hope you have heard stories of chickens running around a yard after they've had their heads cut off? There have also been many, many cares, particularly during the French Revolution where people were decapitated & yet the head was seen either mouthing words or pulling facial expressions. You add to that someone who is pumped up on morphine & possibly a cocktail of other KNOWN hallucinogenic drugs & anything is possible! People don't report the same thing all the time & of the thousands of times people are revived only a small proportion report anything at all including Christians! I have told you that I personally, in having read & researched many of these reports, have not heard of ONE person claiming to have seen god or Allah or Ron Hubbard, there seems to be NO religious contexts to these experiences at all. The "tunnel" illusion that most people report could very easily be the brain beginning to shut down & the sense that consciousness is closing in creating that effect.

I have "studied & observed" & so have a lot of far clever people than me & they have found the world to be round, a few billion years old & not situated in the centre of the universe which is 100% against what your good book says! Of course people can come alive again but if god was that bothered about bringing them back to life why did he allow them to die in the first place! People come back to life for any number of KNOWN medical reasons, there is nothing mysterious or magical about it. In fact it is so common that back in Victorian times somebody patented a device whereby if they people mistakenly buried alive they could ring a bell on the surface, via their coffin, to alert people of the fact that they weren't actually dead!

  36. Part of the reason it never made money was the refusal by the USA to grant it a license to fly the lucrative London - NY route. Am I missing something here? Where did I say anything about Washington? Concorde made it's money on Heathrow - JFK?

  40. As a Brit what was a bigger tragedy for us was the failure of the VC10 project. Concorde was always going to be a risk but the VC10 was a GREAT conventional plane & in fact only beaten by Concorde across the pond!

  42. Hmmm...You are right in a way but that safety aspect should have been built into the play as the subsequent retro engineering proved. It wasn't impossible for a tyre to blow out on the plane & all it took, as indeed what happened, is for a chunk of that debris to smash into the tanks in the wing.

  43. Was not cost effective. Only BA made money from it on the London to NY run. You needed extremely rich businessmen & celebrities to use it & they wouldn't be flying to somewhere like Dallas or Caracas. BA would have liked to have kept theirs flying but once Air France decided to stop their operation from Paris to Rio ( which lost money) it would have become too expensive for one carrier to source all the parts that would have been needed to keep the plane in the air!

  49. The plane wasn't on normal scheduled duties, it was on a charter flight flying German cruise ship passengers. The reason why the plane stopped flying was that Air France was looking for any excuse to ground it as it was costing them a fortune. They only had the Paris - Rio route whereas BA were making a fortune on the London - NY run. It then became a scale of economies as it would have been prohibitively expensive for just BA to fly the plane - parts, servicing etc. If kerosene was 10p a gallon the plane would still be flying but unless you could operate it on the very few highly lucrative business routes it was never going to make money.

  50. With a plane of this complexity there is ongoing research happening all the time, looking at it's performance & in particular the performance of the parts & materials used. It's a bit like if Ford made a car just for you & every time it went in for a service they had to have had a team working 365 days a year to asses what work needed to be done & then specialist machinery to replace whatever parts had worn out together with a HIGHLY trained team of engineers to do the actual work! It would cost you like £500,000 every service! Richard Branson DID offer to buy & fly the plane but the UK government refused. To be honest Branson is ALWAYS up for a publicity stunt so I don't know how serious he was! He of all people would know the plane would never make money outside of maybe two or three international routes. The other big factor was the environmental impact of the plane. As a Brit it is a great shame but I'm immensely proud of our failed beauty particularly bearing in mind she was designed & built by men with little more than slide rules & compasses!
