Regardless of the rights & wrongs of the ownership of the actual islands, you had a regime, with the Argentinians, who would regularly take dissenters up in helicopters, way out into the Atlantic, slice their stomachs open & throw them out! Stopping that alone was probably worth fighting for? Although obstensibly about Nicaragua, the brilliant Rolling Stones song - "Under Cover of the Night" encapsulates South America at that time - "Hear the screams from Centre 42? Loud enough to bust yer brains out!" Centre 42 was a torture centre....😕

Are you nuts? The world was in an economic downturn & I was of working age in the 80's & there were fecking LOADS of jobs about! She took & shook up a greedy & unrealistic union movement & a lot of people who were doing feck all knowing they could suck all day on the ever flowing teat of nationalised industries. Coal production alone was costing us something like £30 a week in subsidise! What she also did & what the more entrepreneurial people in the South took up, not being used to having guaranteed state jobs in coal mining or steel production or making shitty cars for Leyland, was to say - "Feck a class system! If you can make money by your own abilities & merits, go for it!" and many did & that part of the UK boomed! You idiots on the Left make it seem like we had the likes of BMW or IBM going great guns & for some unfathomable reason she came & shut it all down! Every ill this nation suffers from - unfettered immigration, the adulation and rewarding of an over indulged, willfully unemployed & unemployable "Fawned over Feckless" to the emasculation of the police & judicial system spins from the skeletal death hand of the Left! I would have her back tomorrow & would row to an otherworldly Avalon next to the Falklands to do that if need be!

@sans_hw187 Hitler was in fact a massive Anglophile & moved heaven & hell NOT to go to war with the UK! In both the first & second world war we would have been perfectly within our rights to do a Sweden & not got involved but in both cases we were standing by our word & supporting smaller nations & treaties. The French army practically mutinied during WW1 & was run by the busted, German supporting Vichy government in WW2? Of course we run with the Americans, England is not the force it was 5 years ago, let alone 50 years ago! We fecking kicked the Argies arses though from 6000 miles away even when they were given help & missiles from our "friends" the French!

@Mil-w6d Of course people in Norway benefited from their oil bonanza, there's about 6 people & polar bear who live there as opposed to the UK's 65 + (& growing, thanks to immigration) million you fool! I believe the official line on the oil money was that it paid the Welfare bill for the UK for a period of time.
