You are going to think I'm making this up but please look it up. Samuel Pepys was a bit of a boy, he seems to have slept with half the population of London! One of his conquests was to bed a Lady & her daughter at the same time! You'd think these were very puritanical times but far from it! He also famously, during the fire, buried his Parmesan cheese to protect it from the flames as that was considered quite a valuable asset back then!

I must have too much time on my hands but wonder, if it was deep enough, if one night you could have effected an escape through that stream? Maybe get some rocks to weight you down & fashion a tube out of something so you could breath underwater.... Other benefit being that the dogs wouldn't be able to track you if you stayed in the stream. 👍
