The church certainly tried to destroy it!
1
Prove it! the James Randy foundation has $1000,000 on offer to anyone who can & no one has!

NONE, NADA, ZILCH! of ANY religious claims of "miracles" have ever been substantiated by science! In fact a study was done on the "Power of Prayer" & participants actually performed slightly BELOW what was an established norm of pure chance. So when people prayed for someone or something it actually stood a marginally LESSER chance of happening than with no prayer at all. This research is on public record! I'm sorry I really don't understand the rest of your comment in relation to pagans & St. Patrick. From what I can understand you seem to be saying there must have been some divine intervention for people to start believing in Christianity - Obliviously that didn't extend to the Muslims, Hindus or even Jews & that someone celestially ordained through being "well known?" OK by that reckoning Elton John must be one the holiest men on the planet!
1
mr cool Just breaking this down you are now saying that Jews reckon Jesus is the son of god?
1
mr cool You honestly don't know who Elton John is?
1
What are you talking about? That question makes no sense? it's like the "How many people does it take to change a lightbulb?" question!
1
One Step Away Say 500 people built an automated light house & a programming team set it to come on at 11 pm every night. How does your "one" question stack up then?
1
What has been built & functions & please don't say god & the universe or if you do provide some empirical proof!
1
I'm asking YOU! You are the one talking about minds making things function? "How many minds does it take to make something function? What is the min amount?"
1
One Step Away Proof! A ahead of emperical evidence..... And who created the mind? You are saying nothing can come from nothing but then say something from nothing created EVERYTHING!
1
One Step Away Yeah you are confident in your assertion - PROVE IT!
1
One Step Away I KNOW the universe was created by a collison between a grain of sand & a tern's feather high above the North Sea last Friday at 11.32 am. As PROOF is evidently not required here anyone can say whatever shit they like. If you want me to listen to your whacky ideas - Give me evidence or proof NOT a load of flowery gibberish!

Look IF & that is a BIG if there was a creator do you think he would find it sinful for us to use our "god given" intelligence to TRULY research & inquire about what we believe? Look into the scriptures, look at how they plagiarized other earlier religious works & concepts of deities. Look into the myths & falsehoods of stories like that of creation & the flood to see how modern secular science can CATERGORICALLY disprove them now. Ask why there is so many competing & conflicting religions, ask why a supposed "good book" told us to acquire & maintain slaves, persecute those born with a different sexual orientation or stone to death errant children. You are not going to grow horns & start eating babies, it is perfectly fine to be a GOOD informed secular human! You don't have to answer this & it is not a loaded question but just for my own research/interest could you answer me this question. Did you grow up in a religious family & would you say you were (positively in your mind) indoctrinated as a child?

I think that is your problem right there - living in America! I love the place & Americans but something like 50% of you still think the Earth is less than 10,000 years old! - Staggering! In the UK & Europe I think a belief in a Christian faith is down around 6 or 7%? I personally don't have any friends who are Christian. I know a guy who is going through a bad time at the moment who has latched onto a church for the support network that might give him & a woman who is a creationist who tells me that dinosaur bones were...."Buried by Satan to trick us!" I have no problem letting people believe what they want to believe providing that belief doesn't harm others which religion clearly does in..... the miss education of children - The Creation story & other myths like the Flood, in harming others - the persecution of Gays by some Christians, the churches complicity in the continuation of poverty & suffering in banning birth control in developing countries, the pain caused by religious fundamentalist terrorism & the unwelcome interference in science in such matters as embryo research. To think that secular people "indoctrinated" their children is madness - the CHURCH actually set up institutions to do just that! I have a 16 year old son & if he came home & told me he had "found god" I wouldn't ostracise him like many Christian families do to apostates but maybe talk over the "evidence" he has for that belief much as we are now. If he still found some soleus & reason in his faith then that's cool! There is only so for these apologetic "conspiracy theories" are going to take you & only so much "goal post" moving you are going to be able to do. Professional religious nuts like Ken Ham are particularly adept at this in now running with the churches best friends after denying their existence for 2000 years dinosaurs! You know that man & his ministry have FLATLY refused to review or even look at any evidence that is contrary to the teachings of the bible! There's an open mind & someone running scared for you! As for Christ..... Again we have the Jews & other religions categorically denying his claim to be the son of god so you're already on 80% chance there in being in the wrong camp there & take heed - The ones making the contrary claim actually WROTE the fecking book! Christ is also not mentioned AT ALL outside the bible save for a passing reference by a guy who's works were altered by early Christians! They say there are no atheists in foxholes but hopefully while you are still able to walk around in peace you will review what you now take to be fact. I would give you references to people who are former ministers who have now left the church & other resources far more qualified & able to blow the whole thing apart than me but realise I would be wasting time. All I can hope is that you have an enjoyable life & hopefully don't invest too much of it in chasing imaginary celestial winged super monkeys about!

"Deep Heat unfortunate that is what you portray God to be. Seems you are just justifying yourself why not to seek God?" I have researched Christianity & religions a lot & probably with a much more objective mind than you who seem to have 100% categorical faith that there is indeed a god & what's more, it's your flavour of god! Their is an innate need in humans to have a belief system to explain what was once a curious & freighting world. As adults in 2018 some of us have put such superstitious claptrap back in the toy box! They say the biggest apostasy rates for Christians is when some decide to go to seminary school. What you get as everyday Christians is really "Christianity for Dummies." Once they are taught about the REAL crap & are unable to suspend belief many that are true to themselves simply drop out. You would be amazed at how many preaching ministers in the States are actually atheist - Checkout the Clergy Project. Jesus & god say & said a lot of things, so did Donald Duck none of it has come true. "What does dinosaur bones have to do with anything?" The church up until recently has refused to accept the existence of dinosaurs & anything outside literal creation. I cited that woman as an example of how deluded some people are. I'm now thinking you could even be one of them? "I didn’t know the earth had a birth certificate" It has actually or very close to it! Radiometric dating (not carbon dating as that only works up to a certain age) & geological evidence can give us a pretty exact age for the planet & in fact the Universe as we know it! there is no ambiguity or debate about that the science is empirical & categorical. I'm wasting bandwidth here but if you TRULY wanted to educate yourself go to talkorigins, com - You will find all you need to know on this & other advancements there. "Honest question if I told you I saw God would you believe me?" I believe you might believe you saw god. People are abducted by aliens, see god, Jesus & angles & possibly all 4 all the time! That might be the difference between you & I. I will never dismiss ANY possibility out of hand - There COULD be a god. But I'm honest & say "I don't know." You on the other hand are 100% certain that there is based on no physical evidence & now a growing groundswell of contradictory evidence that disprove most biblical axioms & stories. You might have got away with the dust & the rib of the dust crap 1000 years ago together with a 700 yea old man sailing about with the entire proto animal population on a boat but like the Ancient Egyptians & Chinese who were around at this supposed time say - " All this comes as a great surprise to me!"
1
Yeah Tacitus was the one I mentioned above! His writings were kept by early Christians & there is a lot of evidence that they doctored his work to support their religion. My understanding is even he doesn't directly mention Christ but his brother or something? Bottom line is there SHOULD have been a lot more contemporary evidence if all this was true. There were a lot a prolific Roman & Jewish scribes around at that time & none of them backup the Christian story!
1
Again, read the "Arguments challenging the authenticity of the three passages" & "Internal & external arguments" at the bottom of the piece.

I could go out today & buy the technology that would enable me to radio date something & prove it myself. Secular science has no interest in proving or disproving a "god claim" just in finding empirical truths & which one would they start with, there are SO many but if you are happy having a MMR scan you have to be happy with the technology behind radio dating & the geological evidence! This is not supposition or theory but hard earned EMPERICAL CATERGORICAL & DEFINITIVE FACT! Even the "evidence" Christians come up with & hang on every nail & thread in relation to Ark find claims & the Turin Shroud have been disproved! Look at what you've got at the moment - You are buying into a religion who's core tenets have been blown out of the water - We KNOW the Earth is more than 10,000 years old, we KNOW there was no man made from dust & woman from the rib of that dust, we KNOW there was no pandemic flood.... There may well have been a man called Jesus but even the people who wrote the bible don't call him the son of god! All you are really left with are the highly ambiguous doctored writings of a couple of third rate Roman/Jewish scribes & yet STILL you want to believe!
1
The same place you did! The link you gave me to that Wiki page?
1
WHAT do you mean they have not been demonstrated to be true! DNA can categorically prove the progression of life on this planet MILLIONS of years further back than the Ark or even the supposed creation of the planet! The Red Shift tells us the age of the universe to within a matter of millennia! I just DO NOT understand how you try to discount all this empirical data & yet are happy to buy into circular 6500 year old planets that are the centre of universe, men made from dust, unicorns & dragons, 700 year of men & everything we know coming into existence perfectly formed within 6 days 6700 years ago! - It's just CRAZY! How can you overlook all the errors in the bible & even the hateful things a supposedly immaculate deity says like celebrating slavery?
1
But you cant have it both ways! If you believe in a god you have to stand by the scriptures he/she/it gave us & what they tell us are flat out WRONG! If secular science or even science in general can EMPHATICALLY, EMPERICALLY, CATERGORICALLY & CONCLUSIVELY* prove this what are you going on about? If the bible asserts it KNOWS how life on this planet came about in is ready made form where are you gettting off in saying you are RIGHT & science WRONG?
1
You can date it from biblical genealogically. The Bible says that Adam was created on the 6th day and Eve at the end of the 6th day so from their descendants to contemporary figures known to history you can get the age of the Earth! So we don't take any notice of the creation story of the Flood then right? Just a bit of padding?
1
One Step Away You tell me! Aparently the plants were "planted" before the sun turned up so go figure!
1
One Step Away There wasn't actually 7 days as on the 7th. god rested. I said plants were created first - Day 3? The Sun was created Day 4?
1
One Step Away Really! You do realise that there is no separate light source other than the sun! Again you are denying what was written in the bible - You CAN clearly show the age of the Earth from genealogical evidence. The 24 hrs. million years thing is yet more goalpost moving & a busted flush. Would you like me to direct you to an upload made by a theist theologian that does just that?
1
OK - I'm amazed I'm even bothering indulging you in this nonsense. It's like someone having a debate on the validity of there actually being a Peter Pan & the authenticity or not of his adventures. I'm done now. You wont check these out but if you did they would help you a lot The ACTUAL creation of the Earth & life upon it - talkorigins.com The Age of the Earth from a biblical perspective - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2xe30kTSKU&t=308s People who could lead you on a path away from all this sad delusion - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgSvNRhx1y8&t=1s Good luck with your life, I hope you find enlightenment & have the courage to at least look into the dogma & lunacy of what you now believe.
1
One Step Away You too.
1
Yeah when religion has a bit of credibility like not being a few BILLION years out on the age of the Earth & how life developed upon it I will pay them some heed. As things stand at the moment, religion is a load of puerile, asinine tosh & it & it's followers should be treated accordingly!
1
Why?
1
So you believe in something that you don't even know what it is?
