Mr Card is prohibited to own firearms under US law. Not that any laws mattered to him. Very sad.

@DannyTheMarvel One of the channels here on YT disclosed last night he was given domestic violence ex parte orders involving ex wives and children during divorces, and also that he has been committed to a mental health institution for several weeks after threatening people and hearing voices. In both instances Federal Gun laws would instantly make him ineligible to receive, transport or possess firearms or ammunition. What ATF calls a prohibited person. Obviously if that news channel was correct about his history, then there have been some real breakdowns in the law enforcement process in his instance. No way he should have still had access to that M4 and ammunition. Also I am wondering where he got that Vector scope.

@lt4109 Because most gun laws are an obsolete 19th century patch fix to an modern 21st century problem. The gun problem of today is no longer about controlling former slaves, but dealing with the mentally ill and what worked reasonably well in the segregated America of the 19th century is a wholly useless control mechanism There are at least 100 million more guns than people in the US. Thanks to modern machinery and tools anyone can buy at a Lowes or Home Depot or order online, mechanical drawings abounding as well as how to videos on the Internet any 10 year old can assemble an AR from a block of aluminum and a few parts. Then there is also private sales and thefts of firearms. Is there a clear solution? No. I do not believe someone who makes a threatening statement (which may or may not have had cause) should be imprisoned for life because of a malicious free speech incident. But this man is also proof that we need to find a more effective way of dealing with mentally disturbed people.
