I never understood the need for the distortions in Enemy at the Gates. The battle was horrific enough without adding fake stuff.

I wish there was more information available in the US about Soviet light tanks of the WW2 period. As a young man I found tons of books here in the US about the US, British, German and Japanese light tanks of the period, but sadly I was in my 40s before I encountered even a mention of Soviet tanks other than the KVs and the T34 and JSII genre. Even now, decades later there is very little out there about the light tanks the USSR entered WW2 with.

I think the Brigade Commanders knew about the tanks and the Battalion Commander(s) didn't. Information came downhill much faster than it went uphill. The Brigade Commanders were probably also told Browning knew, so they assumed their own supervisor also knew and there was a reason everything was going on. Questioning a Battalion Commander without good cause wasn't healthy for a career, so they didn't. Sosabowski was a scapegoat. He was right in his comments and supervisors don't like subordinates smarter than them. Browning would have made a good S1 or S4 possibly. but he made a poor S3.
