This is a good time for conspiracy nuts to start claiming Russia has learned how to zombie dead Russian soldiers. Certainly the weird pillow he sits against and the non-blinking of his eyes imply his health is very good. Maybe they propped a dying man or his corpse up in a chair and spliced it in?

Russia's food mostly comes, or did until last month anyway, from Kursk and Belgorod. That has ended. Winter comes and a quarter million or more refugees will soon descend on Moscow and St. Petersburg. Those folk will also want food. We have all heard tales how back in the bad pre-WW2 days of Stalin residents of the USSR were crammed for to room in some cities and know of the 1950s and 60s TV footage of bread lines. Expect both situations to return in Moscow and St. Petersburg. In points East and South things might even get a little more desperate. Like he says, when a dam bursts, the drinking water supply behind it just got a little less. It is true that in some parts of Siberia some homes still use wood from a nearby forest for heat. It is also true some places were very much oil based fuel dependent. While we may see a return to coal heat in some places, conversion backwards requires both money and a flow of parts and equipment and all 3 will be lacking. Besides being warm indoors in the winter isn't really that great when you are in truth wondering how much soup you can make out of your kid's hamster or kitten. Russia is going into this winter with what 142 million population? I think next winter the number will be maybe 130 million (or less). All thanks to Putin.
