If there is an ancient region where people want to separate themselves from the "motherland" (or the occupier), then free elections should make that possible and (at least partially) enable separation and independence. The "governing country" will no longer be able to lead this group of people without violence under the neglected and long outdated regulations anyway... Many regions have published a demand for more independence [ East Ukraine, Western Sahara, Tibet, Kurdistan ... ] But a possible (at least partial) separation should be driven by the desire of an (ethnic/historical regional-language) majority to be polled in an independent electoral process, and not driven by extremists... (ballots in the respective regional language)

@msms3260 I don't recognize too much benefit in responding to the content of a comment (which was sent directly to me about 20 minutes ago) if it is not displayed to all panelists in this comment section. From the point of view of the country and its people, the old-fashioned GDR Stasi methods did not work very successfully, did they?

@msms3260 Doubt keeps us awake, while transparency builds trust. Any blind faith (even that of the latest Pandemic Religion) has the potential to establish a dictatorship.
