@2:30 - You're essentially working against Conway's Law. Not that that's bad though. The problem in many companies is that the Developers are working against Conway's Law. They're trying to change "The System" (Software Architecture et al) without changing the Organization. But they really can't change the organization, because the organization doesn't trust them. As a point of order, the organization likely hired people who would "do what they say", and who they probably pay poorly. So why should they trust them to lead? So it's great to have consultants (or Chief Engineers, Principal Engineers, Software Architects, etc) doing what you say, and trying to "Coach organizations to structure themselves to... [See Agile Principle #5]. But that only works when you enter an organization where the developers are already pushing upward. Because they can NOT change unless they change at the same time. That said, we can't get organizations to change unless they trust their dev team. And we can't get the dev team to be trustworthy if the organization isn't hiring people they trust. And they won't hire people they trust unless we self-regulate and define what it means to be a practicing Software Engineer. Certainly one who understands and champions TDD and Continuous-*
