@nlawson2004 What’s wrong with you? It’s called compassion. When you denigrate yourself to the point of contempt and disgust of another being you become that which you hate - a hateful human being. Plus, it’s FACTUALLY proven that when you treat prisoners more humanely their much more likely to have lower recividism rates and thus less likely to reoffend when they are released. Just look at nations such as Norway who take a more compassionate approach and focus on true rehabilitatiom and not just puniative punishment. You want to argue with facts go ahead.... Here’s a quote: “Incarceration in Norway's criminal justice system focuses on the principle of restorative justice and rehabilitating prisoners. ... Norway has one of the lowest recidivism rates in the world, currently 20% within 2 years, with approximately 3,933 offenders in prison, and one of the lowest crime rates in the world.” https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.businessinsider.com/why-norways-prison-system-is-so-successful-2014-12%3famp https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incarceration_in_Norway So, according to empirical science and data, it’s better for overall public safety to treat prisoners more humanely as their less likely to reoffend upon release and thus stay out of prison. And actually you don’t need evidence for this just common sense - if you treat prisoners like dogs and don’t focus on rehabilitating them what do you expect? Do you expect to change them or for them to become more hardened? No offense but come on! Isn’t that what you want to change people so their less like likely to commit crime? Shouldn’t that be your goal?

Dr Goomy Yeah: 1st) Please don’t tell me what I can or can’t do. 2nd) Have a heart. If a dad can forgive his son’s brutal murderer, why can’t you? Why would you want to hold onto hate, contempt and resentment for the rest of your life denying yourself peace and closure? This dad literally forgave his son’s killer in court: https://youtu.be/8wifYHbVl9c This dad also forgive his son’s killer and it helped him let go of his anger: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.courant.com/courant-250/hc-250-minister-walter-everett-forgave-sons-killer-20140928-story.html%3foutputType=amp 3rd) Think about what your dead friend or family member would want you to do. Would they want you to hold onto hate and sadness for the rest of your existence or move on with your life in a way that can keep their memory alive but still find joy in the next phase of your life. With all due respect, forgiveness helps bring peace and helps let go of all those negative feelings. It’s like a huge cathartic release.

Dr Goomy Then your just as bad as they are. Not forgiving and being hateful against a fellow human being takes away a part of your humanity away too. Hate takes and love gives. Do you want to die with hate in your heart? Do you want to live with a resentful mind for the rest of your life? You can’t let your emotions get the better of you! At least forgiveness helps give you peace in your mind and some closure.
