I get it, I am a sailor and offshore fishermen, but you also shouldn't take crazy uncalculated risks either. What he is trying to do is crazy. Maybe start out with a Florida to Bahamas trip, see if he can pull off the Bimini run before he tries to trans Atlantic. He needs a spotter boat too.

  9. It was all kind of messed up, but she in fact could swim. I watched her both swan dive and tread water like a champ. She also kept her head above water well enough to yell. She was mad that they left her so she went with "I can't swim" and then was crazy enough to not actually just swim to shore. The streamer is horrible, but the take away here is that we need to open asylums where these people can be taken care of, not left on the streets to do drugs.

  14.  @mmz12  it's not that hard to get medical coverage in America, and even if you don't there is A LOT you can do. A lot of hospitals will right your bills off if you show them you aren't making much money.

  17. I understand were y'all or coming from, but I am glad they stopped him. He sounded emotionally unstable, especially threatening to kill himself. If he had proper equipment and was of sound mind I would say let him go, but this borderline sounds like he was trying to kill himself. I have been in a bad place before emotionally, and sometimes you need to be saved. I hope he gets better.

That's a pretty clear indicator to me that he isn't prepared and not in the right frame of mind to do this. The weather conditions are absolutely as bad as they could get too, their is a cat 5 hurricane in the middle of the Atlantic.

She also was treading water, or standing on the bottom, and in either case she wasn't actually in danger. She didn't pull the "I can't swim" until they left. She didn't want them to leave, but she could in fact swim, or she wouldn't have been yelling "I can't swim." It would have just been "gurgle, gurgle bubble, bubble."

  40.  @sphere117gaming  I grew up in Florida and have worked as a life guard when I was a teen. That lady wasn't drowning. She wasn't splashing around and her head wasn't going under. In fact, she was able to shout a bunch of nonsense for a long time.
