That is because the average high temperature there is just in the 70s. Seeing 113 goes far beyond the scale. It is beyond a shocker for them.

@7_years_and_ That was Death Valley, 134 F (56.7 C), hottest in the U.S., second hottest in the world, only the Sahara had the higher temperature, 137 F (57.2 C).

I live here and know all too well about the heat and humidity. Average high is 91, average low is 75, average dew point 75.

That is close to the average here in Florida and adding the humidity makes it feel as warm as 45 C. Nights at times only get down to 27 C with Amazon type humidity.

It was Hurricane Irma that came through, Irene was in 2011 and missed Florida, hit Jersey and New England. As for Europeans and the heat, this is practically never seen there and once a lifetime therefore are not used to it at all, average high is just in the 70s there.

The average high there in only in the 70s and to see triple digit heat goes way off the scale, beyond off the scale. To see 100 F in Paris is like seeing 110 F in Chicago.
