Overall see mixed thoughts, though leaning more towards no. As for freedom of speech, one thing is not fearing being sent to a gulag from speaking out as they did when they were the Soviet Union, especially under Stalin and Lenin.

We really live in a Costitutional Republic which in some degree is a form of democracy but a different and unique way than the rest of the world.

I believe you're right. Young Russians are not being indoctrinated with lies and to worship their leaders as god, plus not being brainwashed with Woke, CRT, Marxism and such as the young ones today in North America, Europe, Australia and NZ are.

The far liberal progressive left do but despise America for what it stands believe the true patriots, ones they call 'the far right' are a threat to democracy. It is the true patroits who are the ones that are defending what the U.S. stands for and that is being a Constitutional Republic that thrives on capitalism and free enterprise.

Same here. And seeing them on their iPads texting freely gives me somewhat an impression there is some kind of freedom there. Cannot do that in N. Korea, if caught texting, especially if sending info online to the outside world is punishable by death.

They rig their elections too as it sounds.

N. Korea would sure be 200th then with a stalin like regime with China, Iran, Cuba, Vietnam no higher than 190th.

Their remaining gulags been shut down since Gorbachev came into power.

If he did asked these kind questions in N. Korea, he be done for. Mostly likely in China, Iran and other countries that are still under totalitarian governments of communism and Islam.

@RomanII499 You're kdding, right? Try to speak out against Castro's regime and see what happens. I believe they might have gulags there or some form of concentration camps. All commie nations and Nazi Germany have/had them.
1
The last remaining gulags were all shut down once Gorbachev came into power in 1985. I saw a YouTube video about them and they all been rusting and falling apart for many years now.

I heard that since the collapse of the SU they got 'some' freedom back and that is religion where Orthodox Christianity can be practiced again. Can't do that in NK at all. And Russia no longer have gulags but NK does, having concentration camps where those who dislike, disgree and break any of what is 'their' laws such as sending something online to the outside world that is strictly forbidden there.

@Ilyusyaolegovich Then what would explain N. Korea's political system is there was never communism. That shows pure ignorancy.
1
Think they're going to bring back gulags in Russia and build them in Canada?
1
Russia has only 140 million people and for a country that's over 7 million square miles, that's somewhat low while China is half that size but has ten times more people.
1
Putin got 60% of the votes in 2019.

readtellthetruthandshameth6358 And this is something that could lead the U.S. into CW2.

Russians born 1991 and later never experienced what it was like living under communism of the Soviet Union. Hopefully they be wise enough not wanting it as the young ones in North America, Australia, NZ and Europe do. They all must learn a true history lesson of the facts, horrors and failures of communism/Marxism.
