  1. The other problem is that the USA actually has military bases in Europe. Also, your assumption that European countries don't want to conquer Russia is pretty questionable. Historically it has been tried again and again and the EU has been complicit with the USA in taking NATO to the border of Russia. Unfortunately I have the feeling that the EU wants to become a Power. Who exactly is "Europe" "defending" against?
