The predominant theory is that humans as a species originated in Africa, so you could say we are all native to Africa, despite being prone to melanoma. Well, as close as his offensively sick American-centred world view can ever GET to sense. His argument isn't that Ukrainian death and destruction is a bad thing in and of itself, but that it will eventually cost the US even MORE money in addition to that already poured into weapons for the war. And of course, just as in Gaza, it is NOT the responsibility of the US to end the death and destruction. Merely to stop facilitating and prolonging it. Ben Rhodes and Tommy Vietor have both been pushing this war as hard as they can since its commencement. Their response to Vance is a weird mixture of personal criticism sprinkled with admissions that his argument makes sense. I strongly object to ceasing to prolong the war indefinitely being characterized by Ben Rhodes as "cutting off Ukraine". I also object to his idea that the US should be deciding the terms on which Ukraine gets to end the war.

One is military, including direct force, training, intelligence, weapons supply, etc. Another is financial, including embargos or the threat thereof, boycotts, buying its leaders either with personal bribes or by flooding the country with money, etc. Another is by disseminating propganda. The objective is always to increase American power and/or wealth.

(Although I never understood that, since many Semitic people are neither Jewish by religion nor by cultural background.) Then its meaning got extended to include anyone who was anti-Zionist. Now it includes anyone who strongly criticizes any Israeli action. The weird thing is that while being anti-Jewish is reprehensible, I would argue that NOT vehemently criticizing Israel's actions in Gaza is reprehensible. Yet the word anti-Semitic, even with its latest definition, is still used pejoratively. Let's just use anti_Jewish to mean anti-Jewish, and stop using the elastically defined word anti-Semitic altogether. It tends to muddy the waters.

  22. Why? The war against Vietnam by the US was as shameful as its collaboration in the current ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. It was originally a war of independence from the French - pretty much par for the course all over the world for countries freeing themselves from European rule post-WWII. Only the US decided it was in their interest for the French to remain in control. So they threw their weight into the conflict in the form of weapons, finances, political subversion etc. Then when the Vietnamese finally kicked the French out regardless, but several horrific years of war longer than it would have taken without US involvement, the US then intervened in the subsequent civil war to unite the country under a single government. 4 MILLION Vietnamese civilians were killed. Even today there are people dying there or maimed for life as a result of the tetragenic poison the Americans rained down on them from the sky. How could anyone have a hard time with protesting THAT.

If they decide it doesn't there's some possibility it will stop doing so. The logical corollary being that the US government is enabling the attacks because it puts its interests well above considerations of obscene human suffering on a large scale.

Expanding the borders of Israel was his reason for having called for Rabin's death. The Israelis who knew they were getting when they voted for him. And other Israeli leaders are appearing in interviews talking about how superior Israelis are to Arabs, and why it's OK to massacre Gazans. It's also utter nonsense to say that Israel disregards the damage to the civilian population. Damage to the civilian population is the short-term objective, not the accidental by-product. Particularly strange when it has been noted on the Pod that no sane person believes that massacring a civilian population is going to reduce the numbers of that population who commit atrocities against your own population. So why IS Israel massacring those people? Answer: Land. Israel wants more Land. Specifically, Gaza and the West Bank. Without a bunch of pesky people on it who don't want the same things Israel does.

The effective declaration by the American government that if a single hostage out of the hundreds taken by Hamas has dual citizenship with the US it justifies their future participation in an Israeli holocaust against the Palestinians is sickening. As if Hamas could have vetted the hostages they took in advance to eliminate those with multiple citizenship, and as if most Israelis were not either foreigners themselves in Palestine or descendants of foreigners. The American government shows no such concerns about dual citizens among the far larger numbers of Palestinian hostages that Israel has barricaded into the Gaza strip.
