Awful capitalism. Poor people today live better than a rich person did 100 years ago, that's what capitalism does, it brings benefits to people reduces costs introduces innovations that make people's lives better. Communism can't work without an authoritarian structure dictating what you do, stifles innovation and brings equality all right, everyone becomes equally poor.

+Sonic Pellet Absolutely right. Why? Because if you vote Tory or Labour or Lib Dem or SNP or Green or Plaid Cymru whoever you vote for you get the EU. Because our law has to conform to EU regulations first of all, and then their court has the last say even over our supreme court. So no matter whether you are on the right or the left or in the centre if you want your vote to actually mean something you have to vote leave to get our sovereignty back.

+The Wereduck Oh yes it is, the EU are negotiating TTIP in secret right now and it will apply to all members, there is no opt out ! Regardless, once something is brought in at the EU it is almost impossible to repeal or change it. At least if we have our sovereignty back, if the Tories do something that is unpopular with the people they can vote Labour at the next election and the law can be changed and vice versa. With the 28 state EU where we have about 10% of the vote in the parliament (who can't even propose legislation-only the unelected commission can do that), once something is in place we have no chance of repealing or changing it without building a massive coalition. In the past 20 years the UK has been against 72 proposed directives, we have not once won the vote. 0 out of 72.

+The Wereduck I'm afraid that is just not true. Why will we not trade with the EU if we leave? Everything will stay more or less the same. Do you think the German and French car manufacturers are going to stop selling us their cars? How about all those wine and cheese producers? How are the airbus planes going to take off without those RR engines and the wings which are made in the UK? We import more from the EU than we export to them, they need us more than we need them. Yes there may be some tariffs on some goods (in both directions) but really that will be insignificant, it will mean no more than the fluctuation in the currency exchange market, right now the pound/euro rate swings up and down about 10% over the course of a year. Trade is not affected. The US and China are not in the EU and they trade with the EU, so there is no need to be a member of the club to trade goods and services.

+slothkingn1 didn't say the EU had commandeered our armed forces, but Juncker has repeatedly called for an EU army to be created, at which point the commander in chief would be the President of the Commission not our Prime Minister (well in the UK it is the Queen but she delegates the power to the PM and the Secretary of State for Defence). They have recently created a border force which can deploy on any Schengen member even if they object and patrol the borders. The question is hand is not the British system of government and it's inconsistencies, (personally I would rather see an elected Senate than the house of Lords), however the very important difference is that the House of Lords is not the only house that can initiate legislation, any MP or Lord can propose legislation, and after many procedures it will be thrown out or voted on by both houses. In the EU ONLY the unelected commission can propose legislation, they draught it and then the MEPs debate it and they can tinker with it and even in a few cases reject it (in which case the commission repackages it and sends it out again until it passes). That is the only purpose of the MEPs aside from that they are merely a rubber stamp committee. So the 28 unelected commissioners have all the power !!! This is a totally different scenario to the UK. If we vote to leave the process will last two years (under article 50 of the Lisbon treaty you have to give two years notice of departure), so the Tories, if that is your issue, will only have a short time left before the next election. However please don't vote remain because you don't like the Tories, it has nothing to do with UK politics and everything to do with getting our sovereignty back so our votes actually count for something. Oh just one other thing the UK has been against 72 EU policies in the past 15 years and we have lost every single vote, so to suggest that by remaining in we can change things is just wishful thinking.

Firstly there was no promise to give 350m to the NHS, the slogan was "we give the EU 350m a week, let's fund our NHS instead", it didn't say let's give all the 350m to the NHS, and yes there will be some expenses in the short term but we got our country back, which has no price, people died 75 years ago fighting for our (and Europe's) freedom, that is a much higher price to pay. It's messy because the establishment didn't expect the result so didn't have plans in place. The money will need to be spread amongst farmers, science research and many other things, but at least we get to choose where it goes not the EU ! Truly it was a great result.

This is nonsense, the presumption is that money is finite, so if one person has it another doesn't, this is not true, therefore this whole premise collapses. It is also possible to have high government and high personal debt or low government debt and low personal debt, one does not depend on the other. You're welcome.

+slothkingn1 Really this is not about left or right. What exactly do you think the risks are? The risk of not being controlled by an unelected bureaucracy? Trade will not be affected, even if the EU puts tariffs on exported goods and services it will be derisory under WTO rules, and if they do we can put similar tariffs on the goods they sell to us. As they sell more to us than we sell to them this would hurt them more than us (if it makes any difference at all). The EU are pushing for Britain and France to give up their seats on the UN Security Council and hand them to the EU. Do you like that idea? How about an EU Army? Sound good? Would you trust an undemocratic system to control our armed forces? The "risks" are merely propaganda from the remain side. I can't see any at all.

@gabrielajonczyk5663 Absolute nonsense. Money is not finite. We know that because the Fed or any central bank can just issue more money. If you export goods then money comes into the country from abroad, if you import goods then money leaves the country, so the amount of money in a country at any one time changes. It's like saying wood is finite, you cut down a tree there is now less wood in nature, but if you plant 5 trees for every tree you cut down, in a few years there will be more wood available and you still have the furniture you made from the first tree. So his whole argument is based on a fallacy. How come the GDP of the US was 16 trn in 2014 and 25 trn last year? Where did all that extra money come from...?

What EU money? The EU doesn't have any money...It's our money, we give it to them and then they send some of it back and spend the rest on their big salaries and expense accounts and buildings. If we didn't send it them in the first place we could be doing this sort of thing ourselves, and keeping the change.

Nobody took it away, it was progressively given away by various PMs by signing us up to treaties without asking the people if they wanted to go in that direction. When asked they answered. You are quite right the 350million was wrong, when you add in the invisible extra payments, like the 4/5 of VAT and import duties we pay to the EU plus the fines they lump us with, it is more like 400million a week.
