What happens is the big parties start to espouse the policies of the small parties which effectively destroys their support. They don't need to do it for long, just long enough to erode the small party's support until they run out of money.

@Anonymous-qw Yes well FPTP has its flaws just like any system, but we definitely don't want PR. Because the flaws in that system are even bigger. The politicians choose themselves and there is no way to boot them out. At least with FPTP each MP has to actually win their seat, with PR the top of the list is guaranteed a seat by virtue of being top of the list. I took great pleasure in voting SNP to boot out Jo Swinson, she not only lost her seat but left politics altogether. A massive win !!!. I hate the SNP, but Swinson had to go. With PR as leader of the party she would have been top of the list and guaranteed a seat and still in the HoC today.
