Very simple it's an engineering term called planned obsolescence products designed to fail so you buy a new one. Its design is to keep you coming back and continuing to buy so they can keep generating money. With older phones and software you could go a longer time without getting a new phone because you could simply get a new battery and software wasn't as taxing on the system. They want you to keep a phone for 2 years max and then get a new one. They use this with everything appliances and vehicles as well. So with phones (outside of physical damage) batteries wear out that you can't replace. Charger ports wear out that can't be fixed easily or cheaply and software gets to the point where it's so taxing it causes over use of the hardware wich will drain your battery faster especially as it wears out and cause other system apps to run slower or in effectively. With cars components are designed to fail at certain points and get more expensive as you go through the life where it gets to the point it makes more sense to just get a new car.
