It shouldn't be illegal to do it. Cars would be cheaper significantly and you wouldn't have stealerships robbing people of money with parts service or marking up cars at ridiculous amounts for no reason.. This is a result of lobbying politicians to create laws that only favor certain groups. In a true capitalist free market we'd be able to go to the dealership pick a car already produced or order one direct from the manufacturer. Wich you still can but the middle man wouldn't be involved. Process works Supplier provides components/modules to main plant wich are bought and paid for by the oem. They assemble factor in all costs then sell to dealer for profit then the dealership marks up the cost from there so say building a car it costs the company 15k they sell it for 25k then you buy it for 40+ Same as parts alot of them trade hands multiple times before getting to the dealer by the time it gets to the dealer a 1 dollar part now costs 50.
