Scientist advice was treated as the word of God per this woman. Really.? The great world renowned epidemiologists I know were comprehensively ignored. In addition one needs to ask, was she, is she, any good at the job? How do we know????? I have dealt with quite some covid servants there. Some are very good, some are pretty useless. Swearing and bait of rasping sharpness is common as muck. Not in the civil service I grant you, but from what I saw, they would have benefitted from some of it. The bottom line. It was a disastrous failure of comprehension, governance, rationality and basic decent application of humble concern. Disgraceful behaviour and real criminality seems to have been quite commonplace from all I read. How do the British tolerate this, and so much else? I am amazed at the passivity of the place.
