Before Israel, there was a land of scattered impoverished goat herders, a couple of largely ruined old Byzantine port cities all but abandoned by the Turks and unimproved scrubland and near - desert in an area described 2000 years earlier as a part of the Fertile Crescent, but long since abandoned by a disappeared water table, and avoided by lil but small numbers of local largely illiterate simple tribespeople. To talk of a Palestinian state, or society, or indeed anything at all was and is ridiculous. That the people deserve a decent life is obvious. A state? On what basis? Nothing sensible has been suggested since their corrupted leadership left Israel at the later of agreement three times.
