  12.  @thalesofmiletus2966  no that's not the case now, batteries, wind & solar can be switched on in seconds, the slow one, pumped-hydro, takes 3 minutes to start up although there is still lots of legacy gas which still takes a long time to start up.

They didn't actually stop making electric cars till the 1930s when the limitations of the original rechargeable batteries (lead-acid) were becoming a real problem but the USA's "market" was blocking any improved batteries (Nickel-Iron being the first around 1900-1910 -- there's still a few of that era batteries in daily use). Industrial uses never stopped.

  35. 24:44 yes, the frequency comes from the way electricity is generated by rotating machines (with limited exceptions). You don't need analogies to explain the effect of loading, everyone who drives a car or rides a bicycle knows that if you increase the load the speed goes down. Frequency is the measure of the speed of the generator -- if you add load it slows down. Just like a car or bicycle you can keep the speed by increasing the input power but there's a limit to how much power you have available so if you keep adding load eventually you get slowdown.
