@debbiegilmour6171 actually the UK has largely destroyed its valuable economic sectors. During the Empire the cloth industry was shipped abroad & when the Empire collapsed our connection to that industry also collapsed, before that was spice trading & more recently Thatcher's pogroms against the Unions collapsed much of our industry leaving us reliant on service industries in turn leaving vast numbers of people on the dole. Shipbuilding, railway equipment, coal, steel, pottery, whole major industries are gone or nearly gone.

 @debbiegilmour6171 Germany's economy was harmed by WW1 but what actually wrecked it was the Treaty of Versailles which was specifically designed to ruin Germany.

 @jonathanlake6053 the government chooses who to tax, the last government chose to tax those who can't pay & they chose to give money to those who can easily pay.
