My daughter was returning from Japan, and on the flight began to experience extreme vomiting. When she landed in Vancouver, BC the flight attendant called the airport medical center and the took her , via wheelchair, for treatment. They gave her anti-emetics and rehydrated her with an IV. They kept her at the center until she was stabilized. Worried about the cost, she pulled out her insurance card. The nurse laughed and said that in Canada, she didn't need to pay. Contrast this with my experience with cancer. Despite having very good insurance, my treatment set me back more than $15K .
