1. Stopping genocide. 2. Assisting our allies, the Kurds, in their fight against Da'ash (ISIS).

@City_Pige0n Was the "president" of Syria elected, by the people? Is it apt to call a hereditary dictator a president? What about the Sunni majority and the Kurds, that al Assad has been killing? Why are there so many Syrians fleeing the country? They aren't running from US troops, but from genocidal Alawites, Russians and Iranian proxies.

This is not about oil. I hope most of the misleading comments are coming from Russian trolls, and that fellow Americans are not so ill informed. Be aware, Syria is nominally ruled by a hereditary dictator, an Alawite, who has been engaged in genocide against the Sunni majority and the Kurds. Syria is in a civil war, with the majority of the people fighting against the forces the genocidal dictator has brought in, Russia and Iran. The US is in Syria for two reasons: 1. Stopping genocide. 2. Assisting our allies, the Kurds, in their fight against Da'ash (ISIS).

Iran is being blamed, because those US personnel were attacked by Iranian proxies. duh

@authoritariangentleman7570 Which Syrian government? The unofficial one, that is trying to save lives, and weed out terrorists, whom we are assisting, at their request? Or the unelected, hereditary dictator, who decided to use chemical weapons against his own people, and who has called in Russia and Iran, to aid in genocide of the Sunni majority and the Kurds?

@vengeancewillbemine3440 Kurds, like Arabs and Jews, are Caucasian, even though they originate in Asia. The Kurdish people need their own country, as those nations that control their lands, Iran, Syria, Turkey and Iraq, treat them terribly. #FreeKurdistan

Stopping genocide.

Zakaria is incorrect in saying Iran ever observed agreements it made, in the JCPOA. Even while Obama was president, they were continuing their efforts towards nuclear bombs, preventing inspection of research facilities, and turning off cameras set up as monitors. The European monitors constantly complained about their lack of access to nuclear bomb development sites.

Is the US ruled by a hereditary dictator, who is committing genocide against the majority of people? If not, you can't compare the two countries.
