Just imagine if Jimmy Carter had not told France, to let the Ayatollah Khomeni return to Iran. Reza Shah was already gone, and a democracy loving government, of intellectuals and human rights activists, had formed. If Khomeni had not returned, to seize power, we might not have loved the new Iranian government, but it would not be this oppressive theocracy. The IRGC would not seize the bulk of everything, leaving the Iranian people without food and water. Women would be free to wear, or not wear, the hijab. Thanks Carter.

Carter did it. When France called him, and asked if they should allow Khomeni to return to Iran, Carter said let him go. The revolution had already happened, and the Shah deposed in absentia. There was a government or normal Iranians, who would had formed a mildly anti-west government, but a government of the people and intellectuals who believed in democracy. They disbanded when Ayatollah Khomeni seized power. If Carter had not allowed Khomeni to return, Iran may not have had the most stable government, after all it is made up of a disparate group of peoples, but it would not have become a theocracy. It probably would not have become the major support of terrorism throughout the world, as it has. The IRGC would probably not steal the bulk of everything, as they do now, so the people would have more water and food. At least, the people of Iran, especially the women, would not be so oppressed.
