@amicableenmity9820 AIDS was handled poorly from the get go. I was studying microbiology, at UCLA, in the late 1970s, and we started to read reports on this new immunopathy, that seemed to only strike homosexual males. Some tool decided that it had to be a genetic disease, and that it was linked to, the yet undiscovered, gene for homosexuality. A few days study of historical records, in the bio-med library, showed this could not be a genetic disease, it had to be a newly emergent infections disease. From its behavior, a retrovirus seemed the likely culprit. But, due to the prevailing political winds, nobody in the US could get a grant to study it as an infectious disease, or to isolate the virus. This stupidity set the virology community back a decade, and the virus was first isolated in France. None of that was Faucci's fault.
