  1.  J W  It is not inconsistent to state we don't know, but make assumptions, based upon similar diseases, then correct yourself when more is learned. Frankly, I thought this could be easily handled, until we learned that most of the people passing this disease along are asymptomatic. Science corrects itself, as more data comes in, religions do not. Think of the Hershey-Chase Waring blender experiment. Prior to that, everyone assumed that hypothetical genes would be made of protein, but that experiment proved they must be made of nucleic acids.

  6.  @Viajealduende  Nah, the trend started well before Reagan, during LBJ's Great Society, when putting kids in the appropriate track became an anathema, and good students were held back by the stupid.

I was studying microbiology, at UCLA, in the late 1970s, and we started to read reports on this new immunopathy, that seemed to only strike homosexual males. Some tool decided that it had to be a genetic disease, and that it was linked to, the yet undiscovered, gene for homosexuality. A few days study of historical records, in the bio-med library, showed this could not be a genetic disease, it had to be a newly emergent infections disease. From its behavior, a retrovirus seemed the likely culprit. But, due to the prevailing political winds, nobody in the US could get a grant to study it as an infectious disease, or to isolate the virus. This stupidity set the virology community back a decade, and the virus was first isolated in France. None of that was Faucci's fault.

  8.  @lovejoy1738  Accusations are not always true. If gay activists had not actively interfered with the isolation of the HIV virus, then testing of the blood supply, and identification of infected patients before surgery, a lot fewer blood recipients and medical staff would have died of AIDS.
