  1.  @JeffreyGoddin  Don't forget the protests were because the people were starving (due to drought in Russia and the USA driving up the cost of wheat). Assad had plenty of money, in the government coffers, to buy and distribute enough bread, to see the people through that famine. Instead he killed the people begging for food aid. If he had done the right thing, and fed his people, he would have earned their undying loyalty. His response was not just cruel, it was stupid.
