@aurora_occidentalis2248 All data indicates the virus came out of the wet markets, not a laboratory. 1. The sequences of the coronaviruses being studied in the lab could not have mutated into SARS-CoV-2. 2. The original Wuhan strain had sequences picked up from tanuki (raccoon dogs), which could only occur if the virus had passaged through tanuki. There were no tanuki in the Wuhan lab. Live tanuki were kept and sold in both wet markets. 3. All the original cases clustered around Wuhan's two wet markets, which are on the other side of the river from the lab. None of the early cases were on the lab side of the river.

Except nobody was told not to wear masks. We were told not to bogart all the N95 masks, so that there could be some to keep being able to care for the sick. We were told to use whatever we could, such as homemade masks. I sewed a lot of masks, and gave them to friends and family. What did you do?

We need to prepare for the next emergent disease. We need to bring PPE manufacturing back to the US, rather than buying everything overseas. We need to make sure the CDC has enough money, to be able to stock viable RT-PCR reagents. We need to encourage (with tax incentives) the development and manufacture, of more antivirals and antibiotics. And, even though it is not cost effective, we need to stockpile PPE and antivirals, around the country.

No, we should blame the administration that so starved the CDC for funding, that they didn't have active RT-PCR reagent, so could not make working test kits. And then, that same administration refused the WHO offer of test kits.

It wasn't questioning, that got people kicked out of platforms, but dissemination of known disinformation, like touting the use of antiparisiticals, to treat a viral infection. Nobody should trust anyone who claims to know more than experts.

@soulife8383 Wrong. Surgeons wear a mask to protect the patient. They don't want to be exhaling whatever microorganisms they are carrying, into an open wound. And that is the same reason, when a high percentage of the public might be harboring the infective agent of a pandemic, that everyone should wear a mask in public.

Actually, Fauci got it wrong in the beginning, when he insisted on following the influenza model. Dr Birx was the one who realized the real problem was asymptomatic spread. But she got severe pushback from both Fauci, and Trump's financial gurus. That is why only those who had symptoms, and had been in China, were tested at first. Later Fauci realized Birx was correct, and started siding with her ideas of isolation and testing of everyone who had come in contact with a case. But, by the time Fauci sided with Birx, it was too late.

The ChadOx vaccine has a much higher rate of negative side effects, and is not as effective, as the mRNA vaccines developed by BioNTech and Moderna. And Oxford's vaccine only came out a week before BioNTech's, with less data on effectiveness and safety. Everyone in the vaccinology field, knew that adenoviruses have serious flaws (causing problems with the clotting mechanisms) when used as a vector.

Actually, if Covid-19 were like SARS, we wouldn't have had a pandemic. We were incredibly unlucky. The problem is SARS-CoV-2 is primarily transmitted before symptoms appear. With SARS, symptoms appeared before transmission, so patients could be isolated. And SARS didn't cause disability. There was no Long Sars, if you survived, you were fine. But, the rate of disability lasting years, is well over that 10%. An insurance company released their data, showing 12% of those sick enough to stay home, (not be hospitalized, just stay home) were still not recovered enough to return to work, over two years later. And that was over a year ago. Death is not the only negative outcome of infection, and Covid-19 has both a higher mortality rate, but also a higher disability rate, than polio.

There are numerous studies that demonstrated just that. Do you follow the publications of Cell, Virology, Immunology, the Lancet, JAMA and the NIH (PubMed)?

@BillySBC The problem is, recent scientific papers have demonstrated all the new Covid variants were the result of infections of unvaccinated individuals. So, these non-patriotic luddites caused the deaths of almost a million other people, in this country alone. If everyone who could be vaccinated, was, think of all the dead and disabled Americans, would still be healthy and alive.

@roejogan7770 You do know that no vaccine has ever prevented infection, just severe disease. And with Covid-19, transmission mostly occurs before symptoms. Since you're vaccinated, you won't shed nearly as much virus, as an unvaccinated cretin does. But still, Covid-19 is not the only respiratory virus out there, like RSV. So, if you're feeling poorly, it would be a kindness to others, to wear a mask when you go out among others.
