  1. Why does Pence blame Congress? The justice department is responsible for hiring immigration judges. DOJ answers to the president. He could order DOJ to hire a lot more judges to more quickly process asylum applicants. Economic immigrants are not eligible for asylum. If, as Trump asserts, the great majority of them are not facing persecution or genocide, their cases will be quickly adjudicated, and the problem at our border will be resolved.
