@paperliger1199 Look at Manchin's voting record. He votes with his party far more often than he votes with Republicans. He's a decent centrist, who knows his state. If he voted any more left, they'd replace him with a Republican, yet reelect him, over and over.

Look at Manchin's voting record. The vast majority of his votes are with fellow Democrats. If he were to vote with them 100% of the time, his constituents would vote him out. And to all those idiots, saying primary him, you'd just guarantee a Republican would win his seat, and McConnell would have control of the Senate again.

The Democratic hold on the Senate is a tenuous thing, and even if PR and DC are admitted as states, it is more than likely that the GOP will regain control. It is recognition of this fact, that makes Manchin cautious about change, such as restructuring the court.

There is no blue wave coming. If you look at the results of the 2020 election, Republicans took more seats than they lost. Most of the country is solidly centrist, and the more Democrats push 'progressive' ideas, the fewer people will vote for them. If Manchin is replaced, in 6 years, it will be with a Republican. Democrats need to work on economic issues, that help everyone, and get away from the 'social justice' nonsense, or 2022 will see a huge red wave.

Sandy Katz, do you live in West Virginia? If not, why should he listen to you? His constituents like him.

You're living in a fantasy world, if you think West Virginia will ever elect someone more to the left, than Manchin.

@blakesun While I think our taxes should be more progressive, you have to realize that tax breaks are not giving money to the well off, it is just taking less from them.

Manchin's family comes from the same poor miners. He understands his constituents, and what they want, which is why they keep reelecting him. This is what democracy is about, everyone gets a voice and a vote, whether or not they agree with you.

@justsohappy2494 So, you'd prefer a Republican, that would give McConnell the ability to obstruct everything again?
1
@davidguelette7036 Manchin comes from a poor coal mining family, that used education to become wealthy. He is an American success story. And he votes the majority of times with the Democratic party.

@BigBadJerryRogers And when the GOP regains control of the Senate, all the changes made, will work against Democrats. You really live in the present, with no thought of the future, don't you?
1
@rus9581 Your ignorance is astounding. Manchin has always been a Democrat, and usually votes with his party. If he voted like a 'progressive', he wouldn't have been reelected, over and over. If it were not for Manchin's ability to well represent his state, McConnell would still control the Senate.
1
@t.dmytryshyn2615 Look at his voting record. He is a solid Democrat.

A Blunt Conservative It was not an attempt to balance the court, but the 'defund the police' coupled with violent riots, that turned people off, and gave the Republicans gains in most state house and the House.
