McConaughey was considering running for governor of Texas. I wish he'd decided to do so. He'd be a great improvement over the man currently in that office.

@MrHobbesandlocke That is because, at that time, there was no US army and navy. Private citizens served that role. The second amendment clearly states, that in order to preserve the "security of a free state" a "well regulated militia" had to exist, and those militia members had the "right to bear arms". Today, as the state has army, navy, air force, and even space force, there is no need for private citizens to serve in that manner.

@DarthVaderTheSithLord That was a very poorly decided decision, and the decision it overturned, in United States v Miller, is much more in keeping with the words of the Constitution. That decided that the right to bear arms was not conferred unto the individual, but the military.
