Right wing news is so stupid. The epidemic wasn't started by eating a bat, but a pangolin. They are an endangered species, and so expensive that eating them is a form of conspicuous consumption. Was it horrible that Chinese people were willing to traffic these animals to extinction? Yes, but it wasn't out of a lack of food. Pangolin have been hunted in Asia, so that very few are left. Now, African pangolin are being trafficked, and 78% of them are gone. The Chinese government has now banned the sale of wild meat. Yet, they still allow the trade in pangolin scales for traditional medicine, as does Viet Nam. They are still putting the existence of nature's gardener at risk.
