You can't read too much into a first name. While I was getting to do some research in comparative immunology, I was told to go to a particular lab and ask Boris for the needed material. I did, expecting some Russian dude. Instead there was only a Chinese fellow. I asked if he was Boris. He was. I then asked how he got the name. His answer was that when he first came to the US, he looked in the phone book to find an American name that was close to his. I told him that Boris is not a common name here. He sighed, and said that he'd been told that on countless occasions, too late.
