  1. If only we had the means for a national referendum, to bypass Congress's inaction. Most Americans would vote to make the ATF database of registered guns searchable. Most Americans would vote for red flag laws. Most of us would vote to make background checks mandatory for all purchases. Most of us would vote to raise the age, to purchase anything but a single shot rifle, to 21. If only the American people were given a chance to vote on these measures, because Congress clearly refuses to act.
