  1. Bill Maher is one of those suppressed voices. He was uninvited to Berkeley. He's hardly hateful. If you never hear the voices you don't agree with, your mind will never grow. Grow up, listen to those you don't agree with, then give a logical argument against them if you still disagree. Nobody ever was hurt by being open-minded.

  3. There a lot of people who aren't saying anything hateful being shouted down. I'm a liberal, but even I find some of the far-left as hateful and racist as the far-right. They have a right to speak, even if you or I don't agree with them.

  4. I've seen a lot more Israelis get censored than pro-Arabs speakers. I've seen Jewish groups try to bring in a speaker, and they get shouted down by BDS outsiders. Some of colleges have a pro-terrorist group and they try to get Hillel kicked off campus. In fact, what you state is the opposite of the truth. The right and Jewish groups get censored a lot more on college campuses.

  5. The right, just like the left, is a continuous spectra, not a discrete grouping. You cannot say the all Conservatives are evil or all Liberals are evil. Those on the extreme edges forget that other humans have feelings and rights. When you treat the other as inhuman, you become inhumane, and are evil. People whose ideas you regard as crazy, also think you are crazy. Many would benefit from engaging in speech and debate. When you do, you never know when you enter a contest if you'll have to be pro or con. Having to support both sides of an argument makes you realize that nothing is back and white. Even the far right people who I have listened to aren't against all immigrants, just the illegal aliens. But in your diatribe, you say they are against immigrants, that is not the same as wanting secure borders. Listen to them if you want to counter their arguments.

  7. Jackie Graves Why do consider speech with which you disagree hate speech? The first amendment does not distinguish between speech hated by a particular arbitrator, it applies to all speech. There are a number of things said by both the left and right which really piss me off. But, I am not the arbitrator of other's speech. I do not have, nor should I have, the right to shut others up. If you can't wrap your mind around the fact that others have the same rights you do, consider this. You cannot counter the ideas of others if you do not know what they are. Conservatives should be allowed to speak on campuses, even if just to give their opponents the ability to politely disagree. If you just shout them down, you are shown to be an unthinking bully and forfeit the argument. You don't like what they are saying? Give logical, not emotional, reasons why they are wrong.

  9. Michael, not all the left. Those of us more towards the center aren't quite so dogmatic. But, you are right, we must learn to listen to each other. Listening does not mean agreement.
