  2. I knew a Republican who refused to walk the party line. She preferred to represent the best interests of her constituents. Because she was hard working and popular, she became the minority whip of the California State House. But, the Democrats disliked her popularity, and her own party hated the fact she put her constituents' needs before those of big donors. Her party refused her funds for reelection, and ran a far right goon against her in the primaries, she still won. So, the California DNC and RNC drew the districts lines to exclude her family ranch from her district. She had the option of leaving a ranch that had been in her family for over 150 years, or not running. She chose to retire from politics. Her name was Carol Hallett. It is not easy to go against one's party.

  4. If you look at Mitchell's voting record, he voted against Trump's position five times, and twice chose not to vote for what Trump wanted. Not exactly courageous opposition when you vote with Trump almost 94% of the time.
