  1. Why not focus on the fact too many young people take out massive loans, to get a degree that only qualifies then as a barista? The government should have never guaranteed loans to expensive private schools.

Most of the comments, justifying this massive bailout, for such poor students, that they couldn't qualify for a scholarship, or get admitted to an inexpensive state college, are 'what about X bailout for some other people'. This is whataboutism, just as bad as what the right does. If student debt, to go to an expensive private school, and get a worthless humanities degree, is forgiven, everyone's bad debt should be forgiven, be it a car loan or mortgage.
