Isn't Crist, as a former Republican governor of Florida, also a "well known quantity" as well? Crist chose to serve only one term as governor, and left office with approval ratings, at the same level that DeSantis has. His disapproval rating was lower than DeSantis's is. In fact, the main thing that bothered Floridians, about Crist, was he pardoned Jim Morrison on obscenity charges.

How is engaging in hyperbole, as you have done here, not lying? No, lying is not a crime against humanity (for which you should be thankful). If fact, lying isn't a crime at all, unless you do so under oath.

You don't think election deniers should be given all the rights of a citizen. What is someone, who doesn't like what you believe, takes away your rights? Both sides believe things that are not true. Who gets to decide what notions disqualifies someone? Election deniers annoy me a lot, but I would never espouse preventing them from running. I believe in democracy, where even idiots get a vote, and the right to run for office.

There are already libel laws. The problem is proving some of this is false, and not just a different interpretation.

Words have meanings. You can't change their meanings, on a whim, or because you realized that you said something stupid. Defund means remove funding, therefore, 'defund the police' means to remove funding from the police. It doesn't mean whatever you want it to, just because you realize what a stupid slogan it is, and no matter what your qualifications are. I understand what the slogan actually means, because I know how language works. Pity that you don't.

And yet, we are encouraged to lie, to avoid hurting the feelings of others. Life isn't black and white, but shades of grey.
