I don't understand why this is surprising. In the 1970's we learned girls developed body dysmorphism by seeing images of super skinny models. I disagree with the previous writer that we thought there would be more connectivity in the 70's. That belief really didn't develop until the 90's and the rise of the internet. Yes, we had PCs in the mid 80's, but they were seldom connected. As a programmer in the early 80's, I only had access to intranet (within the business). In the 70's (and early 80's) computers were only found in businesses and colleges. Even in the 90's .edu and .org address far outnumbered the .com addresses.
